Minions: Recycle Scrap Tires

GARDEN PLANTERS AND DECORATIONS.
We have a lot of good ideas for a great garden using recycled tires. Every time I talk about recycled Tire Planters, it is one of my most popular blogs – right next to “How to Beat the Drive Clean Test”. Recycled tire planters is a good opportunity to help out the planet as well as saving on an elevated garden that guards from cut works and other unwanted pests.

ARE “RECYCLED” TIRES TOXIC TO THE EARTH?
This is a question that many of you might have wondered about.  30-40% of the tire is actually natural rubber. The rest of the tire is synthetic rubber made from a petroleum by product. Yes, tires are toxic because tires are made from chemicals. There are so many toxins in our everyday life that it is mind boggling. For instance everyday plastic are harmful not to mention styro-foam containers. Some plastics are now BPA free. But, some studies say that is not enough.

HOW TO: Recycle Scrap Tires

PROGRESS ~ Going Going GONE
postmanChanges In How We Do Things
Will the ‘door to door’ mailman be out of a job someday?
Why I am asking this question is that the tire recycling plant in this VIDEO below was converted from an old mail sorting outlet. The door-to-door milkman is gone. Do you remember him? We used to get milk delivered to our door when I was a kid. It was called Devonshire Dairy – right in the heart of Woodstock, Ontario. The Dairy county of Ontario. The milk would come with 2 inches of cream on top of your glass bottles. The milk man would pick up the empty glass bottles inside your screen door, with your note and payment snug in the top rim of the bottle – like clockwork. I reminisce because you took those things for granted when you are a kid. No worries and no thought to the future, except for chocolate milk and ice cream. On one route an old Belgian horse still did his duty. He wasn’t on my street. But I would see him from time to time clomping on the asphalt road, way off in another neighborhood. He just meandered along. I suspect the milk would churn into butter by the time it arrived at your doorstep. Just kidding! If I live long enough the mailman will be gone too. It is a part of evolution. Good news: All those flyers you get in the mail will be gone and we may have saved a few more trees along the way.
HISTORY OF TIRES
In the beginning only 10% of tires were recycled. Tire recycling has gained a stronger foothold in our society today. The very first step in tire recycling is the shredder. When the old tires are completely processed, what you are left with is black gold not oil but rubber; a firm and durable new rubber.

HOW IT WORKS

What happens to used tires in Ontario?
Today, we have so many new and inventive ways to use scrap tires. It is definitely a step in the right direction.
Five years ago you were hard pressed to find recycling companies and scrap yards. Today the Internet is filled with videos, blogs and more websites than you can shake a stick at. I was looking in Ontario to see what we are doing lately. rethinktires.ca So many new ideas out there about how to recycle old scrap tires; especially for third word countries. This is a good opportunity to show children how to be responsible citizens by using green products made from old recycled tires. Here’s a new idea I thought was amazing: rubber ground cover as seen in this picture to preserve skates at a skating rink.
