CNE- THE EX 2017 Crazy Food!

The CNE provides heart stopping, edible creations that are not for the faint of heart.  Some of these coronary inducing indulgences are extreme interpretations on classic carnival fare, comfort foods, burgers and more.
FOOD BUILDING – CNE Tradition
As a foody, I had to find out what they are featuring at the Ex this year. Everyone goes to the Food Building. It’s a tradition. You can not  miss it. It is located right neat the Go Train for all you suburbanites! I am not going to show you pictures of the CNE Food building. you can smell it and it is huge. Inside there is an eating area of picnic tables. You can walk around and see your favorite vendors.  H.Salt Fish and Chips are really good. They have not changed their winning recipe. A good nosh.  Burgers are always a hit. This year you will feast your eyes on “RED” burger buns. Reminds me of red velvet cup cakes. Franks Hot sauce adds that firey red glow to the buns. I am guessing red food colouring does the rest. Clever idea. I will get one and let you know how much fire is really in those burgers.

GAME OF THRONES
To celebrate the dark days of the Middle Ages, we give you the black funnel cake topped up with charcoal ice cream? I hope they are not using real charcoal.
BURNT PIZZA! If that isn’t enough, how about black, carbon-crust pizza by the slice. Only from Pizza Nova. And, only at the EX!

CRICKETS ANYONE? If that doesn’t scare you crunchy crickets might be just what you need for dessert. I am guessing they are real crickets.  People say they don’t taste like crickets. What does that mean? It goes to show you that you cover anything with chocolate and it tastes good! My son said he ate a roasted cricket once and it tasted quite good. Crispy and crunchy. Yum!
Exciting fun food at the Canadian National Exhibition CNE —-This years fun food looks more like steam punk trending for Goth followers, or are we a bit early for Halloween?  My money is on Franks red-hot burgers. Nah! H.Salt Fish and Chips. Back to my comfort food! My biggest food adventure I have had are a deep- fried pickles.

One Man’s Garbage is Another Man’s ~TREASURE~

WONDERFUL WORKS OF ART
We have a lot of new artists wielding their plasma cutters and blow torches. Here is a glimpse of the “TREASURES” made from someone else’s garbage. You don’t need expensive equipment. You can buy a $20 dollar soldering iron from Walmart.
This weight lifter has been made using a solder iron and twisting a bit of metal with a bunch of washers. Go online and see same images that you like and make the same for yourself.

Tiger welding travels to a lot of exhibitions and shows with his artwork on display. People get ideas about using up their old parts and turning them into a works of art. You don’t have to be a professional. Do it as a hobby.

As I was searching for inspiration for Monday’s post, I stumbled upon the amazing work of hairdresser turned sculptor. Her name is Cal Lane, a Canadian ‘Scrap Metal’ Sculptor, who hails from Vancouver, B.C. It goes to show you that anyone can become a scrap metal artist. It is easier than you think!  All you need is passion, a good eye and steady hands. If you love what you do then you can master anything.

Cal adds feminine lace to hard cold steel. Take a look at these car hoods and doors. Inspiring isn’t it?Cal Lane is an international sculptor who has exhibited her works of art in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. You can see the detail on these ornamental car hoods above. “Metal and Lace”!

Plasma Cutting starts with a

Cal makes a difference with her own style. The patterns can be stenciled on for easy work. Large projects will take several weeks.

How about hot dogs on the grill? Do you like them well done or medium?  These little gadgets give you a choice and a wee chuckle at the same time.

Whatever your pleasure, have fun with your artwork!

Cyber Wire Flowers

Scrap Metal Recycling is available in more than cars, stoves and old BBQ’s. You can get metal wire scraps and make a lot of small and large designs for your home or office. for the DIY ( Do it yourself ) project I have supplied you with various tools you may want or use a pencil (for coils) or the end of a table for sharp corners. Be inventive. This video show you the process. Hope you will make a bike for your friend that rides a lot or maybe a skier? If your brother has two kids, you can make some fun stick figures of a family. Get a pattern online. There are so many selections.

Wire Sculpture, Steel, Brass, Silver and Paint Lacquer

Wire sculptures have so many possibilities. You can draw your design or get one you like from existing works of art and make one for yourself. They are really cute and….you made it! You were wondering how large these wire sculptures can get. Theo Kaccoufa has been commissioned for large pieces. a real talent. Check out his website theoland.com to see his work.

“Theo Kaccoufa’s work explores visions of the future and questions the possible outcomes of genetic manipulation. Appearing like ghosts of the natural world, his three-dimensional wire drawings of flowers are born out of the desire for constant improvement, the search for that which is bigger, better and longer lasting”. courtesy of theoland.com

Keeping it simple has its own rewards. Dont forget the stick golf player. My sister plays golf. I can make a wire stick figure for her with her hair style so she really knows it is her. First I would go on the internet and see some samples. Then, I would draw out a pattern or idea I night follow. More like a guide.

Challenges For Scrap Car Recycling

Only  30% of Metals Are Being Recycled

First Mobile Phone – 1973

The current overall metal recycling rate is around 30 percent.  How do we recapture more material for recycling?  The expansion of community recycling programs and public awareness help a lot. But what is the problem?  Sometimes the recycling facilities are not there to capture all recycling materials. A lot of third world countries do not have a sophisticated recycling program. Garbage is still thrown on the highways or plastics are still being mixed in with household trash. People will not take garbage seriously until it becomes a problem. People are still working on ways to make recycling better.

Another important reason for the low recycling rate has to do with the design of various metal products. The growing complexity of various modern products and their material mix makes recycling increasingly difficult. For instance, a simple mobile phone can contain as many as 40 different elements. So, extracting every kind of materials from a mobile phone and reusing them in the production of new products makes it difficult.

Metal Recycling Technologies

Modern recycling technologies can identify many different kinds of metals.  Never-the-less, there is still a need for even more effective recycling technologies to separate non-ferrous metals.

Magnets are used to separate ferrous metals from non-ferrous metals. It is one of the most important steps in the sorting process. As ferrous metals contain iron and they are attracted to the large magnets which easily pull out the iron materials from the mixed waste stream. In scrap yards, cranes fitted with an electromagnet can remove larger pieces of ferrous scrap.

When sorting metals from a mixed stream of recyclable material, paper is removed first leaving only plastics and metals. Then, electric currents are induced across the stream where only metals get affected. This process is called Eddy Current Separation. Although aluminum (cans) is not magnetic, this technology can levitate it and allow plastics to drop out of the process.

An Eddy current magnetic actually repel the non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium caps and rings from PET bottles

Recovering precious metals such as palladium, platinum, gold and other valuable metals such as copper, lead, and silver from electronic waste becomes economically viable only if enough scrap is collected. Such separation takes more technologically advanced and sophisticated recycling equipment. These days, in large recycling facilities, the use of sensors to identify metals through infra-red scanning and x-ray has become popular. Three common categories of metal sensing processes include biotechnology, hydrometallurgy, and pyrometallurgy. The use of these technologies can effectively improve metal recovery rates.

What is a shredder?

An Overview of the Shredder and Its Uses

Shredding systems are used to reduce the size of any given material. There are many types of shredders. Typical paper shredders at the office are used to prevent identity theft and destroy security documents.  Primarily, shredders are designed for ‘material reduction’  that can be used in the recycling process. Some large shredders include plastic recycling, e-waste recycling, scrap metal, tire recycling, and wood recycling.

The shredding process produces raw material in the form of ‘rubber crumb’ (tires) , chunks of steel (scrap car metal bits). The new material is re-introduced into making new cars, bookshelves. bowling balls (old batteries) and rubber mats. Scrap rubber can be used as a finished product such as landscape mulch.  You will hear names such as grinders, chippers, granulators and hammer mills.  These are all shredders.

The consumer shredder versus industrial shredder

Shredders are categorized as consumer shredders and industrial shredders. A paper shredder used by consumers and can be managed by hand as you will see in the video below   “What happens to toilet paper after its been shredded.” A really fun video. A simple process that takes up very little space.

Industrial shredders are heavy-duty and are equipped to handle a high volume of material. Recycling materials such as e-waste, plastic, wood, and paper require these heavy-duty shredders. These industrial shredders have a variety of cutting systems such as vertical shaft design, horizontal shaft design, single shaft, two shaft, three shaft and four shaft cutting systems.

The use of the shredder in waste management

In waste management, industrial shredders for waste products play a very big role in our community. What do we do with all that garbage? Recycling garbage goes into fuel and electricity for industry and homes. It’s mammoth when you think about it.  Bananas are shipped in cardboard boxes for preservation and easy loading.  More ‘necessary’ waste.  The benefits of using mega-shredders in large-scale waste disposal systems recycling centers and municipal landfills all come down to material reduction.  Scrap cars, rubber tires, wood, plastics and similar materials can be quickly condensed to a mere fraction of their original size.

Did you know?…Bio-degradable waste decomposes faster when shredded. If properly shredded, the materials that are buried in landfills take much less space. In the future, we will get to a point that all garbage will be recycled as many times as possible, just like cars.

The use of shredders in recycling

We are always lookingwe need to look at options that are useful and even ways of cutting costs.  Shredders provides us with new strategic options. There are two reasons why we shred materials in the recycling process. (1) By reducing the volume of material  and cost  of storage. Secondly, automated shredders, particularly in e-waste recycling, also liberate materials for recycling. Such equipment is offered by several vendors. Many options are available, depending upon the specific application. Before making an investment, potential buyers should understand such factors as:

  • Assortment of items to be recycled
  • Volume of throughput
  • Requirements of residual buyers in terms of such parameters as particle size

A flat incline belt is often used to feed materials into the shredder. The material can be placed on the belt through a variety of methods, depending on the particular operation. Material handling equipment assigned to perform this task can include grappling devices, front-end loaders, forklifts and drop-bottom containers.

Where large items are to be shredded versus a stream of only smaller items, a larger primary breakdown unit may be required. A second pass can be then made with a secondary shredder or granulator to further reduce particle size and facilitate the liberation of recyclable materials. Sizing screens are utilized to ensure a uniformly sized product.
SECONDARY Shredder — Granulator – Very High End Machinery! Take a look….

There are single pass machines that will do both the primary breakdown and particle reduction.  Then, you have a variety of sorting machines. They further sort material for maximum recovery.

Trends in Scrap Metal Prices

REDUCE RE-USE RECYCLE! Help the environment by scrapping your metal

Trends in manufacturing follow the old golden rule of supply and demand. Using secondary raw materials means we do not need as much natural resources any longer. Why? It’s because we are overrun with old scrap metal. Lots of cars are getting demolished and shredded. We put them back together like Humpty Dumpty in our processing plant when we make new steel slabs or coils.   New cars are always in demand and are made up of 25%-30% recycled steel.  Scrap metal is made into new metal compounds. We still use raw iron ore in steel making; nickel in stainless steel; or alumina and bauxite in aluminium smelting.

ENERGY SAVINGS: Recycling steel scrap metal cars  has considerable savings in energy. Also, it reduces CO2 emissions. Bringing  old scrap metal into scrap yards helps to save the planet. Prices are better too.

SCRAP METAL PRICES:
Scrap prices change daily. Market forces decide on what the price is for scrap sheets, coils and bars for the next week.  Regionally, you will see varying prices. Local prices may fall behind or ahead. How much scrap metal you have stored at your yard?  If the price is good, you flood the market with your scrap metal stores. Sometimes you can’t afford to sit on scrap metal during low periods. You still need to pay the rent.  To remain on top of live scrap prices you have to follow reliable metal price sites. Subscribe to these websites. Prices change by 10 cents or 10 dollars.

Tow Truck Minions Vs Disney Lightning Mcqueen Monster Truck

FUN FOR KIDS!
This video is great for kids to learn about wonders of how tow trucks work. Especially when driven by MINIONS! So funny!

There’s a lot we can show our kids by visual demonstration and fun ways of learning. If they think its fun, they will learn more and learn better. It have been proven in some countries where the kids only go to school half of the week and “EXPLORE” the world the other half of the week. That country is rated as having a higher level of education; above most other countries. I wont name names. But, the concept works. It makes sense?
How about this one kids!!!

LEARNING IS FUN!
CLASS TRIP: Visit a Scrap Yard! Seeing videos and making fun art from scrap metals allows young minds to understand how things are made. Demonstrating what happens to old cars is interesting and will make people more considerate and conscientious about cars and what we do with them.
