What Happens To Scrap Cars?
A systematic process works for scrapping your old car. Like a well oiled machine. The cars are scaled (weighed) and crushed. During this process the crushed cars are sent down a conveyor belt to separate the aluminum, brass (if any) and other materials to strip down to the steel. Next, a the steel from the car is processed further reducing the metal to steel rolls and bars. Ready to be formed into new items. Even new cars are 25-35 % recycled steel that is equally as strong as new steel. Tires are processed into “crumb” rubber or floor mats and other floor treatment. Batteries are also treated separately. Scrap yards get $10 per battery. Recycling is not high finance. Cars are processed quickly.
Scrap yards get emptied every day in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. If you have put in extensive repair costs or brand new tires, you are out of luck. I was one of the “brand new tires” people. Tires were about 3 months old. They would only fit on the same type of vehicle. There was no point in keeping the tires. At the end of the line, you will see these steel rolls. It’s the end results of processed scrap cars, refrigerators, stoves, any steel products that have met the end of their life.
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you empty your car. Make sure your DVD’s, glasses, 407 highway tracker. Check under the seats. Something might have rolled under your car seats. Poke around all the crevices.
